My subject matter is largely influenced by existentialist philosophy, contemporary art movements, and absurdist humor. These components help shape my artistic style. I derive my ideas from a stream of consciousness approach. When I create character-based pieces, I allow my subjects to express their interior thoughts as externalized monologues through spoken word or physical gestures and poses. I use the mediums of photography, video and film as a visual and psychological catharsis.
In addition to my intuitive approach, I prefer to represent my subject matter in a cinematic style. I view photography, film, and video as unifying crafts and often interrelate the three mediums within my art making. Instead of treating photographs as portraits, I visualize them as movie stills. Conversely, when I work with video and film, I consider how each movement within a frame would look as a single still. The experiences I gained from working within these elements throughout the years have helped me to develop my interchangeable, eclectic style.
